Lemnos (Limnos) sailing holidays

Strong winds are a feature of Lémnos - Λήμνος island, especially in August and during the winter, hence its nickname “the wind-ridden one” (in Greek, Ανεμόεσσα).

Myrina port

Mýrina - Μύρινα harbour is open to West winds but these only blow during Dec, Jan, Feb. In April there are often either N or S winds (and gales), and May brings fine weather.
VHF 9 (Eagleray mentions 12); no swell, mainly sand, small areas of weed; Laundrette Easywash; Taverna Platanias for authentic Greek dishes.

There are roughly 15 berths available:

  • Along-side the West pier with space for ±5 yachts; a couple of larger fishing trawlers have their berths here; you may also be asked to move to accommodate the cruise liner taxis, that arrive several times a week; use all fenders, since the frequent NE will push the yacht hard against the concrete.
  • In the North (on the town quay) there’s place for an additional nine yachts stern-to (anchor holding is suspicious).
Water/electricity € 5 card/key cash at Nautilos Restaurant or Lemnos Hotel, both on the waterfront. Not all electricity points worked although some were repaired in 2023. Harbour office (near the clock) is only open in the morning. Mooring fees also had to be paid in cash, about € 0.75 per metre.
  • If all berths are taken, you can safely anchor in 6 – 8 m near the swimming buoys: “Toúrkikos Gialos”.
